Speed Matters
With the development of our new UI we have a couple of core principles we are adhering to. Amongst others the top3 are:
- Speed and fast response times: making this CRM from a technological perspective as fast and as responsive as possible
- A clear and modern design which we base on lightning design using the in our opinion currently best in the industry
- Ease of use: making the system easy to use , reducing unnecessary clicks and steps wherever possible
Let focus on the first part – SPEED …
Already last year we developed a complete new and flexible […]
The SpiceCRM Winter Release is here
On December 21st Winter started in the northern Hemisphere. At the same time, we published the Winter Release of SpiceCRM as the next level of evolution of SugarCRM CE. It is available from GitHub following this link https://github.com/spicecrm/spicecrm.
The main enhancements include:
– Update on the Theme with slight changes (updated icon sets, cleaned up fields and views, adopted lists and subpanels, etc.)
– Integration of Full Text Search based on Elastic (integrated in the global search as well as in the list views – more details on the customization […]
Enhancing Global Search with Elastic
The global search is a nice feature and adds quite some usability value to the user. The issue thus far typically was that searching based on the relational database was slow and in some cases even killing large databases. That changed with the link to Elastic Search as a search engine.
With the performance and enhanced search options Elasticsearch offers finding records in SugarCRM via the global search just became a […]
Adding Outlook and Exchange Integration to SpiceCRM
We just finished also the plugin part of our Exchange Integration. Over the last year we built a server side Exchange integration that synchronizes Contacts, Tasks and Calendar Items with the Exchange server from sever to server. No plugin is needed which eases the maintenance part and also the distributed logic. Over years we had experience with first the SugarCRM Plugin and then later also (less but still) with our own Outlook Plugin that took care of that synchronization.
Our server side Connectivity eases that and takes the component of too many outlook clients that end up all […]
Launching the SpiceCRM Community
We are happy and proud to see that we are starting to get more traction with SpiceCRM. As result of that we also have been asked for a community / forum site to post questions and start a discussion. As of today, we launched the SpiceCRM Community at http://community.spicecrm.io/. Please join our community and start posting any questions or comment you might have there.
Starting a community is always a tough part – but one day you must start.
Managing Sales Quotas – basic tasks made easy
Some things seem so easy to do so often required and still they are not done. One of those we have seen many times was management of sales quotas. I have been working with SugarCRM for more than 8 years and still looking at sales processes nothing has changed since the beginning. So we thought it is time and added quota management to SpiceCRM.
With the next edition of SpiceCRM you can easily mark users as “quota carrying”. If that is set you can maintain monthly quotas per year for each of those quota carrying members of your […]
SpiceCRM welcomes Elasticsearch
With the upcoming release of SpiceCRM we are integrating Elasticsearch as search engine. Elastic there becomes an integrated part of SpiceCRM and allows easy search for records on the global search as well as for the list views.
A cool addition is also the use of “Aggregates” in the search. Aggregates allow you to define specific fields of your search result to be displayed as available values and then just by selecting the value narrow further down the search. That is a capability that can dramatically speed up the way how you find and search records.

SpiceCRM getting ready for its first Release
We are working hard to get the first packaged version of SpiceCRM ready. Target Date for the first package is May 31st. The main focus areas are as follows:
- a new but well known theme: we are packaging the Google Style theme that was known from SugarOutfitters into SpiceCRM. As part of this we also did rework it adding some new features and also improving performance on existing ones. New Features e.g. include a drag and drop capability for attachments. Improvements are mainly technologically where we […]
KReporter 4.0 is in Beta Release
With release 4.0 KReporter is becoming part of SpiceCRM. As of today KReporter is in Beta Release and available. Development of Release 4.0 was a major effort reworking the complete MVC structure from Sugar6 and moving to a RESTful architecture as also Sugar7 is using it. KReporter is still fully compatible with Sugar6 and Sugar7 but will require to load the KREST API. This REST API is SpiceCRM’s implementation of the RESTful interface. SugarCRM with Release7 did their implementation.
KREST is also a core component of SpiceCRM and might be useful for other projects as well. We will […]
Open Source went Nuclear in 2015
I found a very interesting article 2015-the-year-that-open-source-software-went-nuclear from the wired magazine highlighting the even more emerging trend towards open source. And indeed asides the desktop open source is a winning bet. It is also utterly interesting to see the giants move towards this model. I always was looking with interest to Oracles strategy with MySQL, Java and other components as they are moving to pen source but also the recent moves by Microsoft and Apple are interesting. Still this is on the technical side but it is of interest. I did write before here […]
